Pretty Little Thing

I am not one of those artists who must create each piece to "mean" something. Honestly, most of the time my intention is simply to make the painting appeal to the eye. I like to use bright colors to create a whimsical feel to my work. Sometimes, we just like pretty.

Please excuse my absence but do know I have been working on many new projects. I have completed 3 commissions and several other pieces as of the last month as well as having the honor of doing my brother and new sister-in-law's wedding photography. More to come on that. Spring has many ideas blooming in my head and heart. Happy Spring!

Artist Spotlight: Cathy Cullis

I am truly fascinated by Cathy Cullis and her embroidery work. Her texture and linear elements are what I have been drawing from on my latest quick painterly sketches. I also love her choice of color pallets. I am usually drawn to brilliant colors but the monotone choice for these pieces are quite inspiring and a bit of a challenge for me. I like a challenge. Please visit Cathy's Etsy store to grab a bit of inspiration of your own!

Thanks to Mid-Centuria, I recently became familiar with this amazing Danish painter, Helge Ernst. My husband and I bought a mid century home and have been trying for the past 3 years to get it back to it's original beauty with a little modern twist of course. I am a big fan of Danish Modern furniture as well. So I was so pleased to find new inspiration for my painting. Yellow Interior, 1978, oil on canvas Composition, oil on masonite

Totally crushing on Lola Donoghue

I cannot stop obsessing over Ireland based artist and fashion designer, Lola Donoghue since I saw her as a featured artist on Etsy. Ommmmmm-mazing. I have even found myself envisioning her light pencil strokes coupled with her bold use of black during my daily meditation. I am totally crushing and proud of it. You may see a bit more black in my upcoming work...

So cliche' to say "New Beginnings" and all that BS.HOWEVER that is precisely what this is. New studio, new office, new year, new blog. Why is it called, "The Other End of the Brush"? Google Sgraffito and find out, dude. J/K. Sgraffito is a style of painting. It is when the artist removes or scratches the paint off or onto the surface. I do that. So there. Ready for some before and afters of the work space? I thought so. Ewwwwww...I know. That's why we did some of this.
